You Have a Superpower!
Series: Be The Light

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 42:1-12

Here is my servant, whom I uphold,     my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him;     he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry or lift up his voice,     or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break,     and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;     he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be crushed     until he has established justice in the earth;     and the coastlands wait for his teaching. Thus says God, the Lord,     who created the heavens and stretched them out,     who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it     and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness,     I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people,[a]     a light to the nations,     to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,     from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord, that is my name;     my glory I give to no other,     nor my praise to idols. See, the former things have come to pass,     and new things I now declare; before they spring forth,     I tell you of them. 10 Sing to the Lord a new song,     his praise from the end of the earth! Let the sea roar[b] and all that fills it,     the coastlands and their inhabitants. 11 Let the desert and its towns lift up their voice,     the villages that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of Sela sing for joy,     let them shout from the tops of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord,     and declare his praise in the coastlands.

    Grace to See the Darkness
    Series: Be The Light

    Scripture Reading: Isaiah 9:1-7

But there will be no gloom for those who were in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. 2 [b] The people who walked in darkness     have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—     on them light has shined. You have multiplied the nation,     you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you     as with joy at the harvest,     as people exult when dividing plunder. For the yoke of their burden,     and the bar across their shoulders,     the rod of their oppressor,     you have broken as on the day of Midian. For all the boots of the tramping warriors     and all the garments rolled in blood     shall be burned as fuel for the fire. For a child has been born for us,     a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders;     and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,     Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually,     and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom.     He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness     from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

    Series: Be The Light

    Scripture Reading: Genesis 50:15-21a

Realizing that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers said, “What if Joseph still bears a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong that we did to him?” So they approached Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this instruction before he died, ‘Say to Joseph: I beg you, forgive the crime of your brothers and the wrong they did in harming you.’ Now therefore please forgive the crime of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. Then his brothers also wept,[b] fell down before him, and said, “We are here as your slaves.” But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid! Am I in the place of God? Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good, in order to preserve a numerous people, as he is doing today. So have no fear; I myself will provide for you and your little ones.”

Matthew 5:14-16 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
